Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s AMBI Distribution To Handle Worldwide Sales

Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi revealed today that Maria Valverde (“Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Ali and Nino”) and Isabella Rossellini (“Joy,” “Blue Velvet”) will star opposite Pierce Brosnan (“Mamma Mia!” “The Foreigner”) in the WWII drama “Across the River and Into the Trees,” directed by Martin Campbell (“The Foreigner,” “Casino Royale,” “The Mask of Zorro,” “GoldenEye”). The film is an adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s best-selling novel of the same title.

AMBI Distribution, the worldwide sales arm of Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi’s AMBI Group, has come aboard to handle international sales and will be introducing the project to buyers this week at the American Film Market (AFM).

Set in Italy at the close of WWII, “Across the River and Into the Trees” centers on US Army Col. Richard Cantwell (Pierce Brosnan), a bona fide war hero with an acerbic wit, who faces news of his terminal illness with stubborn disregard. Determined to spend his final days in quiet solitude, he commandeers a military driver to take him to Venice, where he intends to revisit his favorite haunts and embark on one last, perfect duck hunt. But as Cantwell’s plans begin to unravel, a chance encounter with a beautiful aristocrat (Maria Valverde) offers hope, redemption, and an escape from the horrors of war.

Featuring major battlefield set pieces in vivid flashback, the film explores the classic Hemingway themes of age, youth, love, and war against the beautiful backdrop of Venice, Italy.

BAFTA-winner Peter Flannery (“Funny Bones,” “Our Friends in the North”) wrote the screenplay.

Producers are Robert K. MacLean, John Smallcombe and Kristen Roegner. Executive producers are William J. Immerman, Krista Wegener, and AMBI principals Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi.

Principal photography is slated to begin in January 2017 in Venice and Trieste.

Maria Valverde is represented by Garay Talent and management firm Tavistock Wood.  Isabella Rossellini is represented by APA and management firm Art/Work Entertainment.
